Formed in 1985 and based in Austin Texas, the ASSOCIATION OF CERTIFIED FRAUD EXAMINERS (ACFE) has become the world’s largest anti-fraud organization with over 200 Chapters supporting over 90,000 members in over 180 countries and also provides anti-fraud educational materials to over 300 Universities.
After presenting an ACFE Application to establish a local Chapter, on May 5, 1995 the ACFE’s Board of Regents formally approved the establishment of the “Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Vancouver Chapter #66”.
This approval established Vancouver’s Chapter as the 5th Canadian ACFE Chapter after: Toronto (#23); Ottawa (#40); Edmonton (#63); and Calgary (#65). Rounding out the current 7 Canadian Chapters, Montreal (#203) and Halifax (#224) were later established.
While the naming of the Canadian ACFE Chapters focused on the city which submitted its ACFE Application, each Canadian Chapter reflects a much larger geographic area. For example, “Toronto’s” membership comes from throughout South-western Ontario. The “Halifax” Chapter has members from all 4 Atlantic provinces.
Even though our Chapter #66 is “Vancouver”, our members work in private and public sectors such as Academia, Consulting, Corporations, Government, and Regulators from across British Columbia and has reflected a broad range of professions such as: Accountants; Administrators; Analysts; Auditors; Banking; Behaviouralists; Business Valuators; Criminologists; Cyber Specialists; Educators; Financial Planners; Fraud Investigators; Internal Auditors; Insurance; Law Enforcement; Lawyers; Loss Prevention Specialists; Manufacturers; Private Investigators; Securities; Security; Strata Corporations; and also Forensic Students.
In terms of their Academic qualifications, our ACFE Chapter's Membership has reflected an array of over 50 different Professional Designations.
As a non-profit corporation, our Chapter’s core mission is relatively straightforward:
Serving as an anti-fraud professionals’ forum to meet, to network, to learn, and to share experiences and insights in detecting, investigating, preventing, and/or reducing the incidence of all forms of fraud and white-collar crimes.
To achieve our mission in the ever-fast-changing dynamics of fraud, as an active facilitator in fraud prevention and training, the Vancouver ACFE Chapter anticipates:

Given both the geographic and professional profile of the current Vancouver Chapter Membership, in order to achieve as many of the Chapter’s Mission Objectives, throughout the year the Board will draw upon as many communication event modes as possible in order to maximize each session’s objectives: Conferences; Lunch-andLearns; Meetings; Networking Interactions; On-line Sessions; Profile Sharings; Seminars; Social Events; and, Workshops.
Come and share your expertise and interact with other anti-fraud professionals!
In addition to local events, part of our Chapter’s ACFE Mission will be an interactive co-operation commitment with the other 6 Canadian ACFE Chapters: Calgary (#65); Edmonton (#63); Halifax (#224); Montreal (#203); Ottawa (#40); and, Toronto (#23).
The Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation is an internationaly recognized expertise designation in fraud prevention, detection, and deterrence.
CFE’s possess a unique set of skills not found in any other career field or discipline as CFE training combines an integrated knowledge of complex financial transactions with an understanding of methods, law, and how to resolve fraud allegations. CFE’s are also trained to understand not only how fraud occurs, but various theories as to why and where it occurs.
To become a CFE, candidates must complete a 4-course Exam-based training program offered exclusively by ACFE to develop a diverse range of skills related to detecting, investigating, and preventing fraud including:
Prior to starting the CFE certification program, candidates must submit an Application along with references to ACFE in order to be assessed their candidate eligibility.
Upon passing each of the 4 CFE Exams, in order to maintain the CFE designation each person must:
Currently, the Vancouver ACFE Chapter requires, as do many ACFE Chapters, that each Board Member must have achieved, and maintain, their CFE designation.
