Presenting Occupational Fraud Data—Power Point Training

[March 19, 2025 @ 5:00 PM PST]

Marking its 13th edition since 1996, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners published its 106-page Global Occupational Fraud Report in 2024. As with these previous ACFE Reports To The Nation, the data from ACFE’s most current survey of 1,921 cases from some 138 countries estimates that occupational fraud costs all organizations approximately 5% of their annual revenues.

Unlike many reports that summarize data solely in tabular form, the ACFE’s 2024 Report is a mix of both tabular and visual data.

While tabular data is often well suited to precise analysis, translating data visually has a number of learning advantages: Appeal; Comparisons; Comprehension; Engagement; Pattern recognition; and Recall, particularly over time.

Take-Away: 1 CPE

Whereas many of On-line Sessions focus on knowledge or processing, the objective of this ACFE Chapter Session will be to blend understanding occupational fraud data while training attendees on the use of multiple Power Point formats, techniques, and tips as well as suggestions on building more visually dynamic presentations.

On a 3-point Power Point scale, the formats will cover both those at the beginners and intermediate levels. While Apple’s Keynote is slightly different, the approach to visualizing data is directly translatable.

Ian Callaway [MA, MEd, PhD(c), RHU, BCFE, TRiP, CEA, CFI, MFA-P, CFE, EBP, CDCP]

Aside from certifications, presentations, and publications in the fraud space, Ian has graduate level training in approaches to learning. As non-verbal communications cues add meanings to words for fraud investigators, presenting data visually improves data understandings. Both rely on visual impacts. Over the past 40 years Ian has heavily relied on visualizing data so that concepts are more easily understood. As part of that presentation journey, Ian relies heavily on Power Point whether for clients, learning, or litigation.
