CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION EVENTS

With the wide geographic and professional membership in ACFE Chapter #66, an ongoing challenge is searching for cost-effective and convenient locations, timings, and venues to hold Chapter Events addressing Fraud Detection and/or Fraud Elimination. While Covid adversely affected in-person Event participation, a positive collateral has been the acceptance and efficiency of ON-LINE WEB MEETINGS, albeit without facilitating the importance of networking.

A 2025 goal for Chapter #66 will be to hold at least 1 major Event each month, of which 10 will be ON-LINE SESSIONS and 2 will be a combination of IN-PERSON for those able to attend IN-PERSON and concurrently a HYBRID for those unable to attend in person. While the emphasis for all sessions will be educational, and in particular Continuing Professional Educational (CPE) compliant, we will explore a variety of strategies for networking as bookends for all ON-LINE SESSIONS.

As for the timing of all ON-LINE SESSIONS, we have done considerable research in terms of timing within the day, the day of the week as well in the month. Although there may be a required degree of flexibility due to Presenter availability, other than in January, the current schedule will be to hold ON-LINE SESSIONS on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, commencing at either 12:00 Noon or 5:00 PM – see schedule below:

Wednesday May 28, 2025 Vancouver ACFE Chapter hosts an In-person 30th Anniversary Convention.

May 2025 is the 30th year that Vancouver's ACFE Chapter has been serving BC with the promotion of improved fraud detection and deterrence. For members of the professional fraud assessment, inspection, and prevention community our Chapter strives to provide affordable training, networking opportunities, and continuing professional education certification credits.

While Registration opens up at 8:00 AM, the kick-off will commence sharply at 9:00 AM with a welcoming from a Senior Executive from ACFE's headquarters in Austin, Texas.

Providing a theme of “Think Big”, this all day in-person Convention being held at 777 Dunsmuir Avenue [KPMG Bldg] in Vancouver will host 8 distinctly unique Presenters in a very action-packed day. When reviewing the Presenters' profiles, universal words are either “Awards”, “Experienced”, and/or both.

    • AI and the Fraud Revolution: Dr. Matt Kane
    • All About Civil Fraud: Trevor Todd
    • Asset Recovery: John Ahern
    • Corruption by Design: Dr. Darryl Plecas
    • Fireside Fraud Chat: KPMG
    • Fraud in the Community: Better Business Bureau
    • Laundering Ill-Gotten Gains: Kim Bolan
    • Trade-based Money Laundering: Peter Tait

Registrants will receive each Presenter's digital “Swag” containing additional resources related to their subject Presentation, and from one Presenter, a 183-page book.

In addition to a number of Networking breaks between the 60-minute or 30-minute presentations, Lunch is included with registration as well as 2 Coffee / Energy breaks. For those wanting Continuing Education Credits, the Convention will provide 5 hours of credits.

While Early Registration is available for the month of April, as space is limited, it may be necessary to close off Registration before April 30, 2025.

With Covid having limited in-person sessions, our Chapter is fully committed to delivering a memorable, welcoming, and vey high presentation standard. We hope to see you there!

For the first of our two IN-PERSON SESSIONS, with May being our Chapter's 30th anniversary, our IN-PERSON conference will be a full day session on Wednesday, May 28th based on Speaker and Venue availabilities. As for our 2025 year-end wrap-up, we would like to hold more of an end of-day social networking with a prominent Guest Speaker on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

When Speakers and Topics are confirmed for each of the above Sessions, those details will be distributed separately to all Chapter #66 Members as well as posted on our Website under EVENTS. While the Chapter reserves the right to substitute the Speaker(s) and/or Topic, even as late as the day of the Event, the Chapter will attempt to communicate any such change in advance and as soon as is reasonably possible.

With the possible exception of the two IN-PERSON SESSIONS, there is no charge to each Chapter #66 Member for each of the ON-LINE WEBINARS. For interested Non-Chapter Members, a separate Registration Fee will be required and paid in advance of the applicable session.

The Chapter reserves the right to refuse admission or to remove from the venue any person who disrupts the Event, Attendees, and/or Presenters. If a person is removed from the Event due to disruptive or obnoxious behaviour, the attendee agrees to forfeit their registration fees and is not entitled to a refund.

LUNCH AND LEARNS

In addition to the above more formally scheduled Monthly Sessions, there may be occasions throughout the year when Events, Frauds, Legislation, Topics, and/or Speakers have an opportunity to almost spontaneously become available that could contribute to our Chapter Membership’s fight within the Fraud arena.

As with the benefits of Chapter Membership, as such sessions would most likely by conducted ON-LINE, there will be no charge to attend such Events, unless there were an actual meal charge.

Given our Chapter’s Partnership program, it may well be that one or more Chapter Partners will also hold Lunch-andLearn Sessions.

Upcoming Lunch and Learns

  • No Lunch and Learns published yet.

FRAUD E-BLASTS

A third educational vehicle available to Chapter #66 Members will be a continuation of the E-blasts that were implemented starting late in 2024. In addition to a potpourri of Fraud-related links in these E-blasts, each one will be formatted in such a manner that each Chapter Member can re-forward the E-blast to their professional and/or social network as embedded in each header will be the statement “Courtesy of Your ACFE Chapter Member’s Serving in BC”.

SOCIAL MEDIA

A goal for 2025 will be to publicize ACFE Vancouver Chapter Events and Membership profiles as well as Fraud-related matters that we target towards the BC community.

CALL FOR SPEAKERS

Given the wide variety of Professionals in Chapter #66, our Board welcomes speaking invitations from experienced Anti-fraud Professionals and Subject Matter Authorities. We also want to reach out and encourage Anti-Fraud Students to present to our membership utilizing any of the above four communication streams. The Board considers such accepted invitations as a Win-Win for both our Chapter’s Membership as well as that of the Presenter.

For those Anti-fraud Professionals and Subject Matter Authorities who may be less than comfortable speaking in front of and/or writing for their peers, one or more of our Board Members will coach them on the process so as to add comfort to their skill set.

If a proposal to speak or write were selected by the Board for one or more of the above Communication Streams, speakers will be asked to submit: Speaker’s Bio; Speaker’s Headshot Photo; and Written Text and/or Power Point Presentation.

ACFE CANADIAN CHAPTER EVENTS

In 2024 our Chapter initiated a first-of-its-kind communications with Canada’s other 6 ACFE Chapters: Toronto (#23); Ottawa (#40); Edmonton (#63); Calgary (#65); Montreal (#203); and Halifax (#224).

While we will continue to encourage such inter-Canadian ACFE Chapter communication of Events, each of Canada’s other 6 Chapters sets their own participation and cost structure over, which our Chapter has no control. As we receive any such Event notifications, we will pass those on to our Chapter’s Members.

CHAPTER ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Under our Chapter’s current Bylaws dated September 24, 2014, under Bylaw #4.01 our Chapter must hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) “…not more than 6 months after the end of the Corporation’s preceding year end”. As this is a statutory obligation, given our Chapter's October 31st fiscal year-end, our Chapter must hold its AGM on or before April 30th.

In recent years, our Chapter’s AGM was held at the same date and venue along with a Guest Speaker. However, as there have been a number of evolving changes since the passage of the September 24, 2014 Bylaws, not the least of which has been the predominance of On-line Meetings, the Board is targeting to hold its AGM as a completely separate Event to approve a new set of Bylaws.
